Kon’nichiwa!
Below I have created an interactive map of things to know if you’ll be making a stop in Odawara. This includes the easy walk you can do to Odawara Castle, along with easy things to do near Odawara Station in the Minaka Odawara Station. But first I want to explain what’s on the map!

So, here’s what’s on the map!
Odawara Station
On my map below, the train station related things are marked with a black pin.
Once you’ve arrived by train, you will be looking for the Odawara Station east exit if you are going to Odawara Castle or Minaka Odawara.
Once you start walking out of the east exit towards the castle, you will see the stairs and escalator for Minaka Odawara.
There are coin lockers at Odawara Station in several areas, including on the level the ticket gates, along with just outside the east exit and just down the stairs on the west exit side.
There is a tourist information center at Odawara Station, and this is on the same level as the ticket gates. There is manned luggage storage here until 4:30pm. You can buy an Owakudani pass to go to Hakone’s volcano valley at this tourist information center.
Odawara Castle
On my map below, the castle is marked with a pink pin.
It’s reasonable to walk from Odawara Station to Odawara Castle. Start off by walking through Umadashi-mon Gate to get to the castle.
Odawara Castle tours
It’s very reasonable to walk to Odawara Castle on your own, but to get a better appreciation for the samurai history, here are tours you need to consider!
Odawara Castle tour: Take a guided walk through Odawara’s historic streets and castle grounds.
Guided ninja and samurai tour of Odawara Castle: Meet a local ninja expert, explore the castle and Samurai Museum, and try out real ninja tools and techniques in a hands-on workshop.
Where to stay near Odawara Station (with public onsen)
On my map below, this hotel is marked with a magenta bed pin.
Tenseien Odawara Station Annex Hotel is a place to stay near Odawara Station with free public onsen (hot springs). It is in the Minaka Odawara building, so it’s minutes walking from the train station.
Compare prices and read the reviews on expedia and booking.com.
Things to do near Odawara Station (Minaka Odawara building)
On my map below, things to do are marked with a pink pin and magenta pin.
The Minaka Odawara building is located right next to Odawara Station, and most notably it has a free rooftop ashiyu (foot onsen), food court, and the Tenseien Annex Hotel.
The easiest way to get to Minaka Odawara the first time you go is by walking out of the Odawara Station east exit, following the signs for the castle. Once you’re outside the train station and walking in the direction of the castle, you will immediately see stairs and an escalator. Go up that escalator, and at the top will be the food court. For the hotel and ashiyu, walk right past the food court and into the building. Keep walking to look for the elevator. Inside the elevator, there’s a floor guide that will tell you what floor the “rooftop footbath” (14th floor) and hotel “front desk” are on.
Tokyo to Odawara
On my map below, train stations are marked with a black pin.
Start from Shinjuku Station for a direct train ride from Tokyo to Odawara.
Start from Tokyo Station if you want an excuse to take the shinkansen bullet train. Odawara is on the shinkansen line.
Odawara to Hakone
On my map below, train stations are marked with a black pin.
A common route to do the Hakone Loop from Odawara is to start/end at Hakone-Yumoto Station. There’s a direct train from Odawara Station to Hakone-Yumoto Station. From here, the common route is to next take a mountain train to Gora Station. See the Hakone map to plan your Hakone Loop route.
If you want to do the Hakone Loop (which will allow you to see popular must-see sights in Hakone), then the 2-day or 3-day Hakone Pass will provide you will all necessary transportation included, including the train from Tokyo. You just show your pass to get through ticket gates, instead of buying individual tickets.
If you ONLY want to see the Owakudani volcano valley, there is a 2-day Owakudani pass, and you can choose to get transportation included from Odawara Station or Shinjuku Station. You can buy this pass at the Odawara Station tourist information center.
There are no one-day passes.
