Kon’nichiwa!

Below I have created an interactive map of important things to know about in Yokohama. This includes famous attractions in Yokohama. It also includes key transportation stops in Yokohama and Tokyo, as cities you could combine into a day trip with Yokohama.

But first I want to explain what’s on the map, and hopefully that will give you a better understanding of how to plan your time in Yokohama!

Top Yokohama attractions

On my map below, the top Yokohama attractions are marked with a pink pin.

Minato Minai is a popular waterfront area that’s also known for its night skyline views. You can take the Yokohama Air Cabin near Sakuragicho Station for views from above too. Rinko Park is the Minato Mirai waterfront park.

Yokohama Chinatown is Japan’s biggest Chinatown. You can walk around Chinatown on your own to see Chinese temples and food spots, or get to know it better through a Chinatown walking tour. Motomachi-Chukagai Station is near Chinatown.

Yokohama is known for its ramen museums. You can go to the Cup Noodles Museum (where you can do a fun noodle-making activity) and/or the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum to try specialty ramen from regions across Japan.

The Sankei-en Garden is Yokohama’s most famous garden where you’ll see traditional Japanese gardening, as well as historical buildings. You can also make this your spot to drink matcha in Yokohama here. Bus is the way to get to Sankei-en Garden.

The Red Brick Warehouse is a waterfront area to walk around with shops and seasonal events. It’s also a reflection of Yokohama’s international port history. Reviews.

Noge food alley is one of Yokohama’s best known nightlife and food areas for locals, where you can find a bunch of izakaya food spots in the evening.

Notable train stations in Yokohama and Tokyo

On my map below, notable train stations are marked with a black pin.

Sakuragicho Station
A gateway to the popular Minato Mirai waterfront area. (Note that it is not the only train station in the Minato Mirai area.)

Motomachi-Chukagai Station
A gateway to Yokohama Chinatown.

Yokohama Station
A gateway to Yokohama and easy access for day trips.

Shin-Yokohama Station
This is the train station near the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. This is a shinkansen bullet train stop too, which means there’s a direct train to Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Nagoya. (And Tokyo too, but local trains will work just fine between Tokyo and Yokohama.)

Train stations in Yokohama (and across Japan) have “coin lockers” which are basically self-service storage lockers that you can use for your luggage. There are coin lockers at all of the train stations mentioned above (and below). For an example on how coin lockers work, see about the Yokohama coin lockers I used.

Tokyo Station
Tokyo Station to Yokohama’s Sakuragicho Station or Motomachi-Chukagai Station is 40-50 minutes by train.

Shinjuku Station in Tokyo
Shinjuku Station to Yokohama’s Sakuragicho Station or gateway to Motomachi-Chukagai Station is 40-50 minutes by train.

To navigate around Yokohama by train and bus, use google maps! It’s very helpful and really all you need to figure out which train and bus to take in Yokohama and beyond. Use the public transportation option.

Yokohama day trip ideas

On my map below, Yokohama day trip ideas are marked with a deep red pin.

Yokohama to Kamakura
Kamakura is a land of traditional Japan, where you can see a Great Buddha, as well as visit temples and shrines, including a bamboo forest tea house. If you’re staying in Tokyo, it can be reasonable to do a day trip to both Kamakura and Yokohama in one day… depending on what it all is you want to do in each that is! Yokohama Station to Kamakura Station is around 30 minutes by train. Tokyo to Kamakura Station is around 1 hour by train. This also means that if you’re staying in Yokohama, you can do a day trip to Kamakura.

Yokohama to Enoshima
Enoshima is an island of shrines, dragon statues, and caves. Be prepared to walk a lot. If you’re staying in Tokyo, it can be reasonable to do a day trip to both Enoshima and Yokohama in one day. Yokohama Station to Enoshima Station is around 40 minutes by train. Tokyo to Enoshima Station is around 1 hour 10 minutes by train. This also means that if you’re staying in Yokohama, you can do a day trip to Enoshima.

Yokohama to Odawara Castle
Odawara is known for Odawara Castle that is within walking distance of the train station, and there’s also a small foot onsen near Odawara Station while you’re at it. If you’re staying in Tokyo, it can be reasonable to do a day trip to both Odawara Castle and Yokohama in one day! Yokohama Station to Odawara Station is 1 hour by train. Tokyo to Odawara Station is around 1 hour 10 minutes by local train. This also means that if you’re staying in Yokohama… yes, you can do a day trip to Odawara! Odawara Station is also a shinkansen stop, which means there’s a direct connection to Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima… and Tokyo and Yokohama. Odawara is also a gateway to Hakone.

Hotels: Where to stay in Yokohama

On my map below, hotels in Yokohama are marked with a magenta bed pin.

Minato Mirai is a perfect place to stay because you get easy access to Yokohama’s waterfront, shopping, and trains all in one compact walkable area. It’s clean and modern, and it has a relaxing bayside vibe. The Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu and Mitsui Garden Hotel are both just minutes by foot from the waterfront.

Staying near Yamashita Park is a quieter and scenic base that will have you minutes away by foot from the waterfront with peaceful views and walks along the water. You’ll also be within walking distance of Chinatown, and it’s easy access by train and bus to more classic Yokohama things. Hotel New Grand is just minutes by foot from Yamashita Park and the waterfront.
