Kon’nichiwa!
Below I have created an interactive map of important things to know about in Tokyo. You can view this in google maps.
This includes famous tourist attractions and popular sights. There is so much to do in Tokyo that you just can’t do it all in a few days, so you’ll need to decide what’s truly must-do or must-see for you! But I’ve included the most popular things to do in Tokyo, as well as uniquely Japan experience to have in Tokyo.
I tried to keep it from becoming an endless list of things to do so you won’t end up in analysis paralysis… although it does still feel like a lot!
Now first I want to explain what’s on the map, and hopefully that will give you a better idea of how to plan your time in Tokyo!

Depending on where you’re coming from, there might be a better train station to arrive at. But this is just to give you an idea for your preliminary research. Use google maps public transit directions to make navigating Tokyo by train easy! Using the google maps app on your phone gives you lots of details, including future train timings, what platform to go to, what exit to leave the train station, etc!! For Americans with t-mobile: You get free international data on standard t-mobile plans and I can confirm it works very well in Japan. (Confirm your own plan includes this.)

Hotels: Where to stay in Tokyo
On my map below, the hotels are marked with a magenta bed pin.
Ryokan experience in Tokyo
Get complete Japanese vibes with a stay at the Edo Sakura ryokan. This is located near Ueno Park and Asakusa, and it’s a 10-15 minute walk from a train station on the JR Yamanote Line, which means that it has a direct train to the popular neighborhoods of Shinjuku and Shibuya (25-30 minute train ride).
Tokyo hotel in Shinjuku
The Keio Plaza Hotel is a modern luxury hotel that will put you right around the hustle and bustle of one of Tokyoโs most famous neighborhoods. You’ll have tons of options for food and shops, and the streets will be busy even in the evening. This hotel also has a free shuttle to Tokyo Disney, which includes Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea.
Tokyo hotels for solo travelers
In general, business hotels can be a good option for solo travelers in Tokyo. (Even if you’re not in Tokyo on business!) They tend to be simple rooms with a clean and comfortable place to sleep, thinking about the basics that are needed.
The Nishitetsu Inn Shinjuku is a business hotel that’s a 5 minute walk from Nishi-Shinjuku Station with good connections to the rest of the city, and a 15 minute walk from Shinjuku Station which has a direct train to many day trips.
Tokyo hotels for families and groups
In general, Mimaru hotels are known to be good when traveling as a group or family with kids because their apartment-style rooms give more space and convenience than a standard hotel.
For greater convenience closer to the action, the Mimaru Tokyo Shinjuku West is a 5 to 10 minute walk from Shinjuku Station for good connections to the rest of the city and direct connections for many day trips.
For a quieter location, Mimaru Tokyo Hatchobori is a 5 minute walk from Hatchobori Station and from Kayabacho Station for good connections to the rest of the city. It’s a 15 minute walk from Tokyo Station for direct connections to many day trips. Look for the pokemon room in the room types!
Tokyo hotel with a garden
Staying at the Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa will give you a comfortable place to stay within walking distance from Shinagawa Station, where you can get a direct train to Shinjuku. There’s a small Japanese garden right on the property so you don’t even have to leave the hotel to get a quiet walk with traditional Japanese landscape. There are spacious rooms for Tokyo standards, and you can add-on a breakfast buffet.
