Kon’nichiwa!
For the purposes of getting there, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are pretty much right next to each other. So no matter which park you are going to, it’s pretty similar. Only when you get to Maihama Station will it be just a little different. (But it’s easy!)
Maihama StationΒ is the train station that is the gateway to all things Tokyo Disney. If you are getting to Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea on your own by train, you will first arrive at Maihama Station.
Tokyo Disney Resort Line is the Tokyo Disney monorail that loops around Tokyo Disney Resort, which includes Disneyland and DisneySea. It’s a few minutes walk to get to the monorail from Maihama Station. The monorail station names are literally “Tokyo Disneyland Station” and “Tokyo DisneySea Station,” so it’s pretty hard to mess it up!
To get from Tokyo Station to Maihama Station, there’s a direct train. This is on the JR Keiyo Line (JE). Look for signs for it once at Tokyo Station or Shin-Kiba Station.
Use your suica card or pasmo card as your cash card to take the train around Tokyo, including to Maihama Station. You can buy this and load it up with cash at the first train station you arrive at in Tokyo, including at Haneda Airport or Narita Airport. Or, you can buy a ticket at the ticket machine.
If you’re going to Disney from Shinjuku or Shibuya, you’ll need to transfer to get to Maihama Station. Your transfer will be at Tokyo Station or Shin-Kiba Station. The transit time is around the same, around 45 minutes to Tokyo Disney’s gateway station.
If you’re going to Disney from Asakusa, you’ll need to transfer at Tokyo Station and it will take around 40 minutes to get to Tokyo Disney’s gateway.
Most importantly… Use google maps to figure out the train route to Disney!!
I know the Tokyo train system can seem intimidating. But really, google maps makes it so much easier! You might still mess up. That’s okay. That’s normal. That’s a part of the Tokyo experience! π
But I’ll show you below a few things that will lessen your chances of messing up! π€ͺ
Seriously though, just follow google maps and pay attention to signs at the train station! I traveled with my cousin’s family for their first time in Japan, and at some point, my cousin’s 12-year-old was leading the way using google maps, getting us on the right trains in Tokyo!

How to get to Tokyo Disneyland or to Tokyo DisneySea by train
Start: Tokyo Station
If you’re arriving to Tokyo Station by foot, entering from the Tokyo Station Yaesu south entrance/exit will be the most straight forward. You’ll immediately see signs for the JR Keiyo Line. Basically, just keep following the signs. All you need to know is that you’re looking for the Keiyo Line (JE)Β and that you are going to Maihama Station!

π Tokyo Station has a lot of entrances/exits. While the Yaesu entrance can be one of the easiest to find your way to the train that goes to Disney, no matter which entrance you use, you can just look for the Keiyo Line (JE) to get you there. This is the Marunouchi North exit/entrance at Tokyo Station.

π Look for the signs for JE/Keiyo Line to get you on the train to Tokyo Disney!
For hotels near Tokyo Station, check out the Super Hotel Premier Tokyo Station Yaesu-Chuoguchi (5 minute walk) or Mitsui Garden Hotel Otemachi (10 minute walk).

Transferring at Tokyo Station or Shin-Kiba Station
If your train transfer is through Tokyo Station or Shin-Kiba Station, as soon as you get off the train that arrives at either of the train stations, then you will start looking for signs for the JR Keiyo Line! Similarly, just follow those signs!
There are literally so many signs during a train transfer at Tokyo Station. Look up and down.

π If you have a train transfer at Tokyo Station, start looking for signs that point you in the direction of the Keiyo Line. As you exit the platform, there will be signs for the different train lines.

π Tokyo Station is massive, and they try to make it easier by even having directions on the floor! Just keep following the arrows!

π Just keep on following the arrow.
Tokyo Station to Maihama Station
Since I was staying at APA Tokyo Bay, I traveled on the Keiyo Line between Tokyo Station and Chiba. (It was a 20 minute train ride to Maihama Station from the Keiyo Line train station near my hotel.) So I’ve used more pictures than just getting between Tokyo Station and Maihama Station just to give you a better idea on what it’s like! The overall train experience is generally the same.
So once you’ve arrived at the ticket gate for the JR Keiyo Line, you’ll simply TAP your IC card aka your suica card or pasmo card! Then through the ticket gate you go!
You’ll look for the sign and go to the platform that’s going to Maihama Station, then get on the train when it arrives!
From Tokyo Station to Maihama Station is a 16 minute ride, and it will cost around 230 yen (less than US$2).
You’ll get off the train at Maihama Station, then look for signs for DISNEY and SOUTH EXIT.

π If you have an IC card, you don’t need to buy separate train tickets for Maihama Station. Simply tap your suica card or pasmo card through the ticket gate. If you need to buy a ticket, there are ticket machines next to the ticket gate, and you will put the ticket in where it says TICKET. It will come out on the other end, and you need to grab it.

π Keiyo Line train that is your train to Tokyo Disney!

π Once you arrive at Maihama Station, similarly you will TAP your IC card at the ticket gate. If you have a physical ticket, you’ll insert the ticket, and this time it won’t come out. You want to use the south exit to go to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

π You can check how long the train will take, the train schedule, and even the train fare by looking at google maps. See map + directions. The google maps app will give you more details (like being able to expand to see future train timings) than looking at it on a computer. Be sure to adjust the departure time.

π Click the route to expand for details. Notice the ALSO section, where you can see the train schedule with future timings.

π You will see that the train to Disney and Maihama Station comes frequent enough that you don’t need to plan out your day that carefully.

π Similarly, you can map out directions from your hotel in Tokyo. From Shinjuku to Disney by train, it will take about an hour and will cost around 400 yen (US$3). For this example, I used at Nishitetsu Shinjuku, which is where I stayed as a solo traveler.

π You can compare routes and see which one you like best. Usually the first option will work just fine.Β See map + directions for Shinjuku to Disney.
Maihama Station to Tokyo Disneyland
Now that you’ve arrived at Maihama Station, it’s easy to get to Tokyo Disneyland! If you want to walk there from Maihama Station, then you will now just look for the sign to Disneyland! It’s totally possible to walk and lots of people do this. It’s about a 10 minute walk.
You will exit Maihama Station out of the south exit. Once you approach the ticket gate, you’ll see a sign that points in the direction of Tokyo Disneyland Park, which will be to the RIGHT as you are exiting. It’s written in English on the sign.
So after you tap out of the ticket gate, you can head RIGHT if you just want to walk straight to Disneyland!
Or… if you want the experience of riding the Tokyo Disney monorail, you can take the monorail to Disneyland too!
The monorail will be in the other direction (left), and you can follow signs to Disney Resort Line, then get off at the Tokyo Disneyland Station. (In that case, you might want to stay on the monorail for the whole loop first, or else you’re literally only on the monorail for like 2 minutes. That’s how long it takes to get to Tokyo Disneyland Station. There will be no price difference whether you ride the monorail for 2 minutes or 20 minutes if you never leave the ticketed area.)

π Once at Maihama Station, you’ll go to the south exit and look for signs to Tokyo Disneyland Park. From there, it’s easy to get to Disneyland!
Maihama Station to Tokyo DisneySea
Now that you’ve arrived at Maihama Station, it’s easy to get to Tokyo DisneySea too!
You can also walk to DisneySea from Maihama Station, although it’s a little bit further, maybe more like 15-20 minutes. Or, you can take the monorail to Tokyo DisneySea Station.
Whether you want to walk to Tokyo DisneySea or take the monorail, you’ll start off in the same direction leaving Maihama Station.
You will exit out of the south exit of Maihama Station. Once you approach the ticket gate, you’ll see a sign that points in the directions of Tokyo DisneySea Park, which will be to the LEFT. This is in the same direction as the sign you will see for Disney Resort Line (the monorail) and Ikspiari (the shopping, dining, and entertainment area of Tokyo Disney outside of the parks). These are written in English on the signs.
So after you tap out of the ticket gate, you can head to the LEFT to go to DisneySea by monorail or by foot.

π Once at Maihama Station, you’ll go to the south exit and look for signs to Tokyo DisneySea Park. From there, it’s easy to get to DisneySea! This is in the same direction as the Tokyo Disney monorail and Ikspiari.
